HL7 CDA conformance validators for National Health Care Surveys and cancer registry reporting
Welcome to the CDA Validation Tools
What is here

Four validators for HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) documents, carried over from the NIST CDA Guideline Validation site and now operated as part of the SITT suite:

Each validator checks an uploaded XML document against the CDA R2 schema and the Schematron rules of its implementation guide, and returns a report of errors and warnings. No account is needed.

Which version do I need?

Guidelines for use
  • A favorable outcome with the test materials on this site does not imply conformance recognition or certification by anyone. The validators are self-testing aids for developers and implementers.
  • Real patient data must never be sent to this server.
  • Patient confidentiality notice. In keeping with HIPAA requirements, anyone using these validators through this site shall not upload real data about living, identifiable individuals, and shall comply with all applicable federal regulations including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. Documents are processed to produce the validation report and are not retained as a record. An organization that needs to validate documents containing real patient information should run the tools locally: the NHCS validator sources are in Downloads and CRV is published by CDC on GitHub.
  • Unless otherwise noted, the validator software may be redistributed and modified freely, provided derivative works carry a notice that they are derived from it and modified versions carry a notice that they have been modified.
Attribution and disclaimer

The National Health Care Surveys validators were developed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) by employees of the Federal Government in the course of their official duties and are in the public domain (17 U.S.C. § 105). The Cancer Report Validator is developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and published under the Apache 2.0 licence at github.com/CDCgov/cancer-report-validator.

This site hosts and operates those tools. Prometheus Computing is not the author of the validation rules and does not change them; defects in the rules or in a tool's behaviour are routed to the tool's maintainers through the Google Groups above. The tools are provided as is, without any guarantee, expressed or implied, about their quality, reliability or fitness for a purpose.
